Celebrating Tanabata: A Joyful Fusion of Culture and Community
The Perse School (Singapore) was awash in colour, tradition, and joy as we celebrated Tanabata, the Japanese Star Festival, on campus. Students and teachers alike donned traditional Japanese attire, immersing themselves in the rich customs and festive spirit of this beloved occasion.
Throughout the day, children engaged in hands-on cultural activities such as tanzaku wish-making, goldfish scooping, and crafting vibrant fukinagashi streamers. The celebration was brought to life with poetry readings, cheerful songs, and an energetic Omikoshi parade, while the Bon-odori dance united the community in rhythm and spirit.
A special highlight of the festival was the moving performances, including a Koto solo by one of our talented students and a breathtaking Japanese harp recital by guests from the Japanese Association Singapore.
Tanabata was more than a festival—it was a joyful celebration of learning beyond the classroom, where global understanding, creativity, and community came together. At The Perse, we believe these shared experiences are the threads that connect hearts, cultures, and stories.
