A Summer of Learning and Discovery
At The Perse School (Singapore), summer is not just a break, it’s a season of discovery, connection, and growth.
Set in a lush, green environment, our summer school provides an immersive English-language experience while embracing Singapore’s rich cultural diversity. Designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking, our summer school courses are designed as one-week units that immerse students in project-based and research-driven learning, blending classroom and outdoor experiences.
With expert educators, engaging themes, and a supportive learning environment, our Summer School nurtures academic excellence and essential soft skills.
As Ms Barkha Vahi, our EAL Lead Teacher shared:
“Our Summer School offers a dynamic and immersive environment for EAL learners to build confidence in English while exploring exciting themes through science, art, and culture. It was a wonderful blend of language development, hands-on learning, and fun!”
Here’s a glimpse into the themed modules and activities students have experienced so far:
- Rainforest Exploration
Students built imaginative 3D rainforest dioramas and practised writing postcards, incorporating descriptive language related to nature and ecosystems. They also took part in rainforest-inspired arts and crafts activities, before heading to the kitchen to create environmentally themed bento.
- Art & Science
This theme blended experimentation with creativity. Students investigated acids and bases using everyday kitchen ingredients, then made their own cheese from scratch to observe chemical changes in action. They also began collaborative art projects inspired by their visit to the ArtScience Museum, putting teamwork and imagination into practice as they reflected on how science and art connect.
- Biodiversity & Conservation
Students learned about the 4 Rs, recycle, reuse, reduce, and repair and put these principles into action by creating new products from recycled materials. They explored ocean biodiversity, expanded their vocabulary around marine life, and learned what happens to sea creatures when waste isn’t properly disposed of. A fun spelling and letter-sound matching activity helped reinforce key words and phonics skills along the way.
- Culture & Heritage
This theme offered a window into the world. Students drew pictures of their own culture, completed a short writing task, and practised their speaking by sharing with friends. They also explored Rangoli art, creating colourful geometric designs. Later in the week, they looked at homes around the world, discussed where they’d like to live, and constructed model homes using straw, tape, and modelling clay. In the kitchen, our young chefs made Vietnamese spring rolls and Greek wraps, learning about the ingredients and cultural significance behind each dish.
Each theme ended with a Friday showcase, where students proudly presented their work to parents and teachers—developing not only their English fluency, but also public speaking skills, self-confidence, and a strong sense of accomplishment.
Beyond the classroom, students dive into exciting subjects and themes and immerse themselves in an English programme through cooking, arts, sports and hands-on exploration of Singapore’s diverse ecosystems through field-based learning. Each week brought new challenges, discoveries, and opportunities for growth in an inspiring, supportive environment.
We believe language comes alive when learning is purposeful, joyful, and rooted in real experiences. Our Summer School continues to reflect that promise.
