Overview

The Perse School (Singapore) is seeking a passionate and dynamic Teacher of PE and Games Teacher to join our expanding team from August 2025. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping and building a comprehensive sports programme, working throughout the Junior School, expanding into the Senior School.

Key Responsibilities

PE and Games

  • Teaching PE and Games: Deliver high-quality PE lessons and games activities across a variety of sports, ensuring students develop physical skills, fitness, and an understanding of teamwork and fair play.
  • Curriculum Planning: Develop lesson plans aligned with the school’s PE curriculum and broader educational goals, catering to different ages and skill levels.
  • Student Development: Monitor and assess students’ progress, offering feedback to improve their physical performance and overall well-being.
  • Extra-Curricular Activities: Lead and support extra-curricular sports clubs, teams, and events, encouraging broad participation in school sports outside of regular lessons.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure the physical safety of students during lessons and sports activities by maintaining equipment, monitoring safe use, and adhering to health and safety guidelines.
  • Competitions and Events: Organise and oversee inter-house and inter-school sports competitions, fostering a competitive and inclusive environment.
  • Collaboration with Staff: Work closely with other teachers, sports coaches, and support staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student development and well-being.
  • Pastoral Care: Contribute to the overall pastoral care of students, supporting their personal development and helping them build resilience through sports.
  • Professional Development: Stay up to date with current trends in physical education and sports coaching, attending relevant training to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Inclusive Education: Ensure that lessons are inclusive, catering to the needs of students with different abilities and ensuring all can participate in physical activities.

Supporting Outdoor Education

  • Assist in the development of the school’s outdoor education programme and encourage student participation.
  • Provide support for outdoor activities and expeditions, ensuring safety and engagement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate outdoor learning into the broader school curriculum.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • A relevant degree and teaching qualification (PGCE, B.Ed., or equivalent).
  • Experience in teaching PE and Games to primary and/or secondary school students.
  • Strong coaching background in at least one major team sport (e.g., football, rugby, netball) and experience with a range of individual sports and physical activities.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • A commitment to fostering a positive learning environment and supporting students’ well-being.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of health and safety practices in sports and outdoor education.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in developing and implementing a school sports programme.
  • Experience in leading school residential trips.
  • Experience working in an international school setting.
